Venezuela, Orinoco Tar Sands oil fields? by Paul Heckbert from the GigaPan Earth at Night 2012: The Black Marble by NASA Earth Observatory
The island at right is Trinidad, so the bright area at lower left is probably part of the Orinoco Tar Sands. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orinoco_Belt

Alberta oil sand development by Paul Heckbert from the GigaPan Earth at Night 2012: The Black Marble by NASA Earth Observatory
I believe the lights at top center are Athabasca Oil Sand fields near Fort McMurray, northern Alberta. Note how few roads there are in this area. The city in lower left is Edmonton.

Eagle Ford oil & gas fields of south Texas? by Paul Heckbert from the GigaPan Earth at Night 2012: The Black Marble by NASA Earth Observatory
The city at top is San Antonio, and those at lower left and lower right are Nuevo Laredo, MX and Corpus Christi, but the arc of dispersed lights sweeping west to east in the middle is probably oil & gas wells. Why are they lit at night?

Apparently they have lights on through the night. Are they needed? That looks like Lake Sakakawea in the lower right.
