    Na jeseň 1944 bolo okolie obce Strečno pod rovnomenným hradom miestom ťažkých bojov. Vojenských operácii sa na strane povstalcov zúčastnila aj skupina 52 Francúzov pod vedením kapitána Georgesa de Lannurien.

    Pamätník francúzskym partizánom , ktorý stojí na vŕšku Zvonica, slávnostne odhalili 29. augusta 1956. Pamätník z travertínu vytvorili sochári Ladislav Snopek a Ladislav Beisetzer. Pod pamätníkom sa nachádza krypta, v ktorej sú uložené telesné pozostatky 24 partizánov. Každoročne koncom augusta sa pri pamätníku na Zvonici koná kladenie vencov za účasti členov diplomatického zboru a delegácií z Francúzska.
