La Fragatta rotating restaurant. by Martin Horkley from the GigaPan Bogota looking both north and south by Martin Horkley
La Fragatta - once famous for excellent and expensive food. I say once, as the last time I went I was very disappointed with the quality. This used to be a pleasant annual meal out near Christmas every year, but I have now knocked it off the list. The whole room rotates in about an hour and the tables get a very pleasant view of the city during the meal. Shame the quality has dropped so much... of courses the prices are still as high as the building.

Police Body Guard - Bogota by Martin Horkley from the GigaPan Bogota looking both north and south by Martin Horkley
Police Body Guard in Bogota stopping traffic to allow some dark windowed cars out of a junction. The fact that this is a policeman would mean that the people/person in the car is either a politician or a diplomat - probably the former.

Water storage in warm climates.. by Martin Horkley from the GigaPan View of the mountains and streets around Bogota by Martin Horkley
These could not exist in northern and southern hemispheres nearer to the poles as they would freeze. Temperatures here rarely drop below 5c at night and almost never in the city.

One of the permenant kiosks for street selling by Martin Horkley from the GigaPan View of the mountains and streets around Bogota by Martin Horkley
These permenant kiosks will replace the pram street sellers. Sellers will have to rent these from the city.

Street seller by Martin Horkley from the GigaPan View of the mountains and streets around Bogota by Martin Horkley
Very soon these will become a thing of the past as the city has placed permenant kiosks around this part of the city and will make unorthorised selling illegal.

Guadua Bamboo by Martin Horkley from the GigaPan Buenavista Quindio Colombia coffee region by Martin Horkley
This incredible bamboo is very broard and strong, perfect for construction. Once a plant has grown to maturity, it can grow one stem in 6 months: thats 12-15 cms a day. The width of these shoots are about 15-20cms. With correct treatment they can last for 100 years... with no treatment, they maay only last 3-5 years. I understand the treatment is.... first cut the guadua at the base and then leave it hanging (the top part is caught with other branches and will hold it there suspended.) This is left to dry for 45 days and then it is pulled down and trimmed and placed in a bath of borax and other chemicals for about 6 days. Once dryed this will produce the perfect treatment for constructing.

Guadua Bamboo house in the coffee region of Colombia by Martin Horkley from the GigaPan Salento Mirador Quindio Colombia by Martin Horkley
Guadua Bamboo house in the coffee region of Colombia. A very broad bamboo, about 15-20cm across, that is perfect for construction use. If treated correctly, then this should last over 100 years. The treatment takes about 60 days.

Tree Berries in Colombia by Martin Horkley from the GigaPan Represa del Tomin near Bogota & La Calera in Colombia by Martin Horkley
I thought I had locked the focus on the camera, but apparently not. So this is the effect.... The berries have come out well, but the background is out of focus. This is repeated across this scene.where the camera has locked onto objects in the forground. The G9 has a f-stop of f8.0 max. If I could have taken this wih it set at F22 then I would have probably gained both fore and background.

Transmilenium Mass transport system by Martin Horkley from the GigaPan The City of Bogota by Martin Horkley
The transmilenium has its own routes and is based on double length busses. I am a little sad they didn't use either natural gas or other types of cleaner energy to power the busses.

The town of Paipa Colombia by Martin Horkley from the GigaPan Lake Sochagota Paipa Colombia by Martin Horkley
This is the town of Paipa. Famous for its hot springs.
Many hotels in this relatively cold part of the country have hot spring heated swimming pools, which is a very pleasant way to relax day or night.
