Microtome by Gord Mawdsley from the GigaPan Sunnybrook Imaging Research 3-D Pathology Lab by Gord Mawdsley
Microtome for slicing 4 to 10 micron slices from the front of wax embedded tissue samples. These slices are then put on microscope slides (1"x3" or 2" x 3" on this unit) and then stained.

Sample by Gord Mawdsley from the GigaPan Tissue Camera by Gord Mawdsley
This sample is being imaged.
The background support medium is agar, and has a litle CuSO4 (copper sulphate) in to produce a known colour background for the H&E slides, and to provide radiographic and MRI contrast if the specimen is imaged in CT or MRI.0 comments

Washable keyboard by Gord Mawdsley from the GigaPan Tissue Camera by Gord Mawdsley
This keyboard is ideal for the path lab, can be washed with alcohol, water or acetone. Also, it only cost $19.00 soi is disposable if needed.

Telecentric lens by Gord Mawdsley from the GigaPan Tissue Camera by Gord Mawdsley
The front element needs to be the same size as the image field.
These lenses have the feature that they have a fairly large depth of field, and because the light rays are parallel, measurements of length are the same at all distances from the front of the lens. They also have very little pincushion or barrel distortion, meaning that image reconstruction is very simple and quantitative.0 comments

Illumination source by Gord Mawdsley from the GigaPan Tissue Camera by Gord Mawdsley
Circline lamp - needs improvement, but works reasonably well. I need to find a ballast for the 12" lamp to fit on the larger lens.

Serial whole-mount sections by Gord Mawdsley from the GigaPan Digital Mammography Unit used for Specimen X-Rays by Gord Mawdsley
14 slices through lumpectomy, each 3 mm thick.
The tissue is surrounded by agar to keep the orientation and shape of the tissue slice and to permit registration of adjacent breadloaf slices.0 comments
