    Beginning in July 2011, our east-west runway, which is now 5900 feet long, is supposed to get an extension. As you can see, the only way to extend is out into Kotzebue Sound. We have a list of planned airport closings this summer to allow crews to complete the job.

    The old NANA Museum is no more, but the rounded blue roof tops the new Northwest Arctic Heritage Center. The National Park Service has opened this cultural gem. It takes quite a bit of effort to visit Kotzebue, however once you are here, museum admission is free!
