    this lies below a very steep and tall cliff. would've sounded awesome...as do rocks thrown from the edge when they hit it.

    Rounded gravel evident here. Colluvium dominates to left. Colluvium hosts cooked carbonate soil. Note contact and pinchout to right.

    Description:

    Contact between lavas. Cobbles mainly vesicular basalt. Likely from immediately underlying lava flow surface.

    One of suprisingly few landslides in this reach of the river. A paltry one as well.

    Description:

    The hanging fan at Jackson Hole is pinned to a ~240 ka paleochannel position formed on the Clarks Butte lava.

    This 2 Ma-ish lava flow provides a key datum for the profile of the early Pleistocene Owyhee River where it overlies river gravel.

    Description:

    Top of thick section of Miocene freshwater limestone deposited up until the arrival of the full-blown Colorado River about 5.6 Million years ago.

    Description:

    River is flowing through sediments that it deposited in Lake Mead in wetter times. Prolonged drought has exposed much historical sediment.

    Description:

    One of the most abrupt physiographic transitions in North America. The boundary between the Colorado Plateau and the Basin and Range.
