    Description:

    This might be an isoclinal (limbs almost parallel) recumbent (lying down horizontally) fold. Anyone familiar with the area able to say for sure?

    A nice look at how ~vertical faults have offset the dark layer that is contorted into a recumbent fold (recumbent = axial plane of fold is ~horizontal).

    Description:

    Clastic detritus shed off the young Andean arc, and accumulated in an adjacent marine basin as a series of turbidity currents cascaded sand and mud into the deep. Age = Cretaceous.

    Description:

    I was curious about this feature when I visited Torres del Paine in December of 2009. Is it a basaltic dike cross-cutting the Eocene granite of the Cuernos? Or is it a fault marked by pseudotachylite?...

    Description:

    This appears to be a resistant layer of conglomerate cropping out, which in Torres del Paine would be the Cerro Toro formation (Cretaceous).

    A characteristic mineral of the Blue Ridge basement complex. Blue color comes from inclusions of titanium minerals.

    Description:

    Paleo-karst! An ancient cave in gray limestone collapsed, and calcite (white) was precipitated in the spaces in between the fragments.
