Solar panels by Ross Alford from the GigaPan Harbor at Portland Roads, near Iron Range, Cape York Peninsula, Australia by Ross Alford
Portland Roads is well and truly off the grid. Water is supplied by rain, and power by solar, generators, or both.

The Prophet by Ross Alford from the GigaPan Nina Peak from Ramsay Bay. Hinchinbrook Island, Queensland, Australia by Ross Alford
Amazing freestanding rock formation on North Peak. Narrower at the base than the top, and the "small" boulder at the top does make it look a bit like a human form. Don't let the scale fool you, tthe prophet is BIG; some of the little plants nearby are trees.

I took the complementary panorama of Ramsay Bay from Nina Peak from this point. You can see the cubic boulder in the foreground of that image-- www.gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=7471

The end of the boardwalk through the mangroves that gives access to Ramsay Bay from Missionary Bay is just visible to the left. The National Park sign, side-on, is just visible as a gray column near the right edge

on Castle Hill, left over from WWII when Townsville was a major military aviation centre during the Battle of the Coral Sea and the retaking of New Guinea. Slit windows for protection from strafing (which never happened)

Gun emplacement at Kissing Point by Ross Alford from the GigaPan Townsville, Queensland, looking north from Castle Hill towards Pallarenda and the Town Common by Ross Alford
Former home of Jezzine Barracks, an Army post used during the second world war and most recently used for army reserves. Townsville faced a moderately serious threat of invasion, and numerous old gun emplacememts are scattered around. In 2007, donated by the federal government to the city, after a long fight against the government, who initially wanted to sell it to developers.

Reef HQ used to be known as the Great Barrier Reef Aquarium. Has a living coral reef visible from a walk-through tunnel, lots of nice exhibits, as you might expect being right next to the reef.

Aquarius Hotel by Ross Alford from the GigaPan Townsville, Queensland, from southernmost lookout point on Castle Hill by Ross Alford
The only high-rise building along the Strand beachfront. Many battels have been fought to keep high rise development off the Strand, and so far this is the only exception, built before people appreciated the value of an uncluttered beachfront.
