Rocky shores by R Forrester from the GigaPan Sunrise and the River by R Forrester
Big rocks are laid on the river bank to prevent erosion by the fast flowing Bow River. As of April 29, 2012 fhe rocks are still being sorted and placed.

A long reach by R Forrester from the GigaPan Sunrise and the River by R Forrester
Part of the design brief for this bridge was that it must not have any supports (piers) in the river AND height restrictions ruled out support towers at the ends. The final design solution - given these conditions - is exquisite.

Lots of Ice by R Forrester from the GigaPan Man, the Ice Cometh by R Forrester
The scale printed on the bridge pier suggests the ice pile is 12' (3.6m) deep. It probably is a bit less as the top of the pile is quite a ways this side of the bridge and the camera slightly lower than the 12' marker. But not by much.

water drops by R Forrester from the GigaPan Fountain by R Forrester
Drops of water that have splashed onto the acrylic panel, maybe 50mm from the lens, and beyond the drops the water-wall of the fountain, mybe 2m away. The drops and wall are sharp due to focus stacking, but water running down the wall is blurred by a slow shutter speed..

The water level has fallen recently, leaving sheets of ice projecting out over the river from the banks. Note icicles on the shelf underside.

Construcion project was dark for Earth Hour by R Forrester from the GigaPan Earth Hour (plus one week) Calgary 2010 by R Forrester

Lights Out at 'The Bow' construction project by R Forrester from the GigaPan Earth Hour Calgary 2010 by R Forrester
At exactly 8:30 PM on March 27 almost all of the construcion lights at 'The Bow' site winked out as the Owners, Contractors, and Tradespeople showed us all what it means to participate in Earth Hour with style. (Here is wht the site looked like one week later. gigapan.org/gigapans/46298/ )
It is the scale of what the gang at The Bow did that is important. The site is lit with hundreds of high intensity lights in temporary fixtures all switched off pretty much in unison while leaving enough illumination for safety and security. This is a construction site, remember, and the building is far from complete. That The Bow was willing to plan and execute this kind of participation in Earth Hour - and its message of using of the Earth's resources wisely - is remarkable indeed.
Oh, and at 9:30 PM, right on cue, the lights came back on at The Bow.0 comments

Delta Hotel sign dark by R Forrester from the GigaPan Earth Hour Calgary 2010 by R Forrester
Delta gets a five-star rating but Sheridan and Westin seemed to have missed their wake-up calls. Correction: The Sheridan Hotel did have a number of their exterior lights turned off for Earth Hour.

Goose what thinks it's a flamingo by R Forrester from the GigaPan Bow River Spring Breakup by R Forrester
This goose spent quite a while standing on one foot. I don't think it was injured - it didn't act distressed - so my guess is it was just keeping one foot warm by lifting it off the ice.

Water and Ice by R Forrester from the GigaPan Bow River Spring Breakup by R Forrester
Solid and liquid, push and resist - as happens every Spring the water will win and carry the ice downstream or push it up onto the riverbanks where it melts and contributes to the flow.
