I'm waiting here to drop on Jeremy Clarkson - the article was so foul and I think he can do better - 2/10 Jeremy. Next time do some home-work - a little research and come up with something interesting to read - I wasted my time on you. Send tickets to Monaco (on appropriate dates) for a better review next time (however - spelling your name correctly is not enough).

Excellent spot for a deck here by Man Garnier from the GigaPan The other side of Rye, East Sussex, UK by Man Garnier

If the existing windows were replaced with further french doors and a deck installed - wouldn't this be a great spot for afternoon tea and strawberry scones? Maybe a better spot for a glass of wine & some savouries before supper. A good book, a sun lounger and a glass of sparkling water would be fine too.

  24. This allotment

This allotment by Man Garnier from the GigaPan The other side of Rye, East Sussex, UK by Man Garnier

I imagine this allotment gives tremendous pleasure - some back-ache and considerable amounts of fresh produce that supplement and provide exciting additions to the diets of many of the people who 'garden' in them and of course their family & friends.
If the birds, bees and insects were in some way interfered with to prevent pollination occurring - how would this change this allotment? How would it change the garden in the UK? How would it affect the agriculture not only here but globally? It's time to question release of genetically modified insects but to do so in a 'balanced' manner. We are all concerned, I imagine, about the long term effects and hope they will be all good. Imagine also - a planet without strawberries... Balance this with a planet without Malaria. Can we have both? Oh no! Can we control one or the other? Shouldn't we all be reliably informed of whether this is possible at the moment - more reliably. This is our planet. Maybe - just a little more reassurance and information/results of tests would convince us that the risk is negligible to the eco-system. Recent news casts have informed us of the release of millions of male GM mosquitoes. Supposedly, the larvae of the mated females will not survive and so forth. Let's compare this to a virus which can mutate and form a much higher resistance to drugs produced to kill them. Just a thought. Why not comment below - offer your opinion - positive or negative. We are all waiting to be convinced - either way. Somehow though - do you have that feeling of impending doom? I'm not a depressive or a massive optimist - however, I and others do have some concerns and feel that ultimately we are heading for some future problems which we have perhaps introduced rather hastily. I hope not. I also hope that this comment does not provoke any huge protests about GM insects but will encourage thoughts from a range of people - some of whom might suggest something of great importance. I'm not holding my breath.

Great views from here! by Man Garnier from the GigaPan The other side of Rye, East Sussex, UK by Man Garnier

Looks like a lovely place to spend on a summer's evening - sipping drinks before dinner. I expect you could arrange a pulley system to bring up fresh produce from the allotments below... send more strawberries and some mint to rejuvinate our 'mohito's'. Best when sipped in Havana though.

Can you spot any other areas for 'development'?

  26. 360 degrees

360 degrees by Man Garnier from the GigaPan The other side of Rye, East Sussex, UK by Man Garnier

Just behind here I set-up a Gigapan machine to take a 360 degree panorama. Unfortunately it took about 1 1/2 hours to take and the later images are much darker. However, it provides some interesting views of the castle, the Ypres Inn next door to it and the Estuary with it's boats and views including a large area of wind turbines. Do you recognise the guys having a chat on one of the boats. Is that you?
Oh! - you will have to view the 360 degree view from Rye Castle to see them of course!

  27. Rye Castle

Rye Castle by Man Garnier from the GigaPan The other side of Rye, East Sussex, UK by Man Garnier

There are a line of cannons outside in an area where you can see some great views of the Estuary, boats, ships and part of these allotments. In the distance there are some huge wind turbines. I'm not sure of their value as they have huge expenditures on maintenance - however, they are a reminder of our efforts to reduce pollution. It seems these efforts are often misplaced - so worthy of much closer scrutiny while mindful of the needs of others especially in countries not so fortunate as out own. I'm referring to GM crops and even nuclear power for instance - and the genetically modified male mosquitoes recently released in Malaysia to help prevent the spread and increase of Dengue Fever. Let's hope this leads to a similar programme to eliminate Malaria globally. However, one has to wonder about the repercussions of reducing the food chain that other insects & birds often rely on. Also what if the experiment fails and mutates for whatever reason? Has this particular thoughtful but rather enthusiastic project been tested enough to assure there is no danger to future ecology or health? Is the perhaps early release of these mosquitoes driven by a desire for profit and acclaim? I'm hoping these are all misplaced fears - and the project(s) are extremely successful. What do you think? You can comment in the Add Comment area if you wish.

Ready by Man Garnier from the GigaPan The other side of Rye, East Sussex, UK by Man Garnier

Ready & bluey - to celebrate - can't wait to see the lights illuminated - candles lit and maybe set-up an outdoor hot-tub this winter? If it snows (this winter is thought to be perhaps colder than last!) there is plenty of room to roll around in the allotment... just be careful of those pots, prickles and passing Gigapanographers (like me). Quick! - back in the tub.

Apples! by Man Garnier from the GigaPan The other side of Rye, East Sussex, UK by Man Garnier

Ready for eating or making cider - maybe an apple tart/pie or crumble? Whatever it is - do you recognise this variety? Is the blue barrell waiting to be used for cider-making? Will those apples be stored in the shed behind? If they were stored - how long would they last before tasting like blotting paper? They look a good size & colour for toffee apple making. However, they have missed Halloween and Guy Fawkes - maybe they will be saved for Christmas?

Strawberries by Man Garnier from the GigaPan The other side of Rye, East Sussex, UK by Man Garnier

Ah! - strawberries - this patch needs a rest and some feeding before it begins it's prolific fruiting again next year! There are early & late varieties and those inbetween. I'm always delighted at being offered early strawberries although the later varieties seem to have a much better flavour. What is your favourite? Pass the cream.

Another possibility by Man Garnier from the GigaPan Not Sundog City by The Gigapanographer Currently Known as "Kilgore661"

It's really rather spookey - there are more arches here!

If the light 'refractions' - reflections - blend anomalies are not 'sundogs' - maybe they are radio signals usually not seen - but not always (as illustrated here). It's highly likely they are Radio 4's Archer's transmission signals. A little research will identify whether this was a moment of broadcast. Have you contacted Ted Archer?

sundogs - rare but images like this are more rare by Man Garnier from the GigaPan Not Sundog City by The Gigapanographer Currently Known as "Kilgore661"

caused by reflection through hexagonal ice crystals this phenomenon is usually illustrated with only two or three halo's. Total internal reflections along a bank of crystals aligned at the right angle here have resulted in eight (more?) sundog halo's. I'm led to believe that these were not very visible to the human eye at the time but HDR processing has revealed something rather spectacular. Worthy of space in a magazine or a book that includes this subject. Reproduction/use fees would be higher than normal as these images are rare.

To compare what a little unsharp mask sharpening can do for your images - compare this with the same image (100% enlargement - any more and it will degrade a little!) uploaded with sharpening and a little enhancement here and there. This one is as produced via Gigapan. Another Gigapan will be processed using Autopano in the same way to compare in due course.

STOP! - asking silly questions. Re comment 120710 14:14 by Man Garnier from the GigaPan PRSC Ia: Turbo Island (Mad Version) by The Gigapanographer Currently Known as "Kilgore661"

The wind was strong and the Gigapan wobbly. A gust toppled the Gigapan & tripod into a puddle which had petrol & BP oil floating on the surface. The rest was digital!

If you go the HDR route - make yourself a frappocino con chocolate mit cherry morello and fresh whipped cream. Don't forget the expresso (double-shot!) and wait while the magic develops.
