Topic: Web Site and Forum / Website Fixes Great to see the new fixes to the website today – I’m particularly pleased to see that Most Popular Galleries now does what it should. :-) Please update us with a full list of fixes, Angelko. I don’t think you ever got around to it after the last round of updates. :-( [Update: Okay, my favorite update is officially the addition of “Geology” to the categories list. :-) Of course, it also means I’m going to end up spending many hours editing the categories of my 900+ GigaPans and 80+ Galleries. :-( Hmmm, maybe I can put Berti and Edi on that task…] |

Topic: General Gigapanning / Finally found a good battery carrier Ever since I’ve been gigapanning, I’ve been in search of the “perfect” AA battery carrier. I always carry 3 or 4 loaded battery trays, but on longer shoots I’ll carry several additional sets of eneloops. I just got a couple of these from Amazon, and they meet all of my requirements: multiples of 6 batteries, durable, usable one-handed, ability to distinguish spent cells from fresh, protect both ends of the batteries, batteries can’t fall out. |

Topic: Stitch / Software Won't Open Has anyone had trouble getting Stitch or Uploader to open at all? I have them both installed on a Win 7 64bit machine at work, and neither will open. Double clicking results in a short “thinking” graphic on the mouse icon, then nothing. I’ve tried: -turning off antivirus And the curious thing is we have an identical machine here which has no issues. I wonder if there is some vital Windows component that I may have deleted. Any suggestions? |

Topic: Stitch / Sticher 2.0 and EFX I am not sure if this discount information has been sent out yet, if it has I will contact support to make sure they have my correct e-mail. I have used the EFX in trial mode and it’s great to be able to move some pictures around and do colour adjustments. |

Topic: Stitch / RMS Error ! Xavier, While I can’t help you directly with this, I wonder if you’d be interested in sharing the full specifications of the machine you’re stitching this on. I see you have 64GB of memory and with that I’m assuming you’ve probably put this together or had it built to your specifications. I’m working on building a unit now myself and struggling with the components trying the balance cost and performance. Some additional details may also help the gigapan guys troubleshoot this. Most likely you’ll get a response once they are in tomorrow. Bob |

Topic: Stitch / RMS Error ! Hi, With my previous PC (Windows Vista 32bit, 2GB RAM and Stitch 1.0) I managed to assemble panoramic. It’s perfect. I have a new PC (Windows 7 64-bit, 64GB RAM, and Stitch 1.0 et 2.0), Stitching will stop being calculated : 2012-05-05 15:54:41 {16} [ console ] : * Greedy feature-based alignment results:
2012-05-05 15:54:52 {16} [ console ] : Global error is 111.724 pixels RMS Whether it’s with Stitch 2.0 and Stitch 1.0, the result is the same, and therefore I can not seem to pan assembly. Please HELP ! |

Topic: Embedding / How to use GigaTag? Hi guys, I’ve been trying to embed my GigaPan with the option to let the users tag themselves but I just can’t find it. In the GitaTag section there’s no clue on how to do it nor link to the place where the embed (w/FB tags) should be generated. Could someone help me out here? Thanks a lot! |

Topic: General Gigapanning / new camera or not, from 6mp to 24mp I am currently using a Nikon D70 with an epic100 (I got it to work, I moved shutter release a little higher). Question, would getting a new 24 megapixel Nikon D3200 give me better pictures when zooming in then the D70,6 megapixel that I have? I would be using the same lens for each to rule that out. The pictures from the 24mp camera are twice the size as the 6mp camera, so would I be able to zoom in more and closer to objects when viewing them here? |

Topic: General Gigapanning / Zoom Options I’m now using a Canon T2i on an Epic100 with a Canon 70 to 300mm zoom as my primary GigaPanning setup. To appreciate the quality of the T2i at full zoom compare these two GigaPans I shot of the Robbers Roost Pluton in the Southern Sierra Nevada Batholith: 1) Canon SX10IS at full zoom (less than optimal light): http://www.gigapan.com/gigapans/51713 Even at less than the full 300mm zoom, here’s what the T2i is capable of: http://www.gigapan.com/gigapans/104068 I think you’ll be very pleased – I know I am. :-) |

Topic: General Gigapanning / 7D issues Thanks for the very fast help i am now waiting for a new cable. Just out of curiosity has anyone had this problem with their Epic Pros? ( cables not working/ locking up camera ) Today i took it into my local pro shop, Leos Camera and we tried it out with all the canon cameras they had on display and anything with the N3 connector won’t shoot. Fingers crossed my new cable thats on its way will fix this issue. |

Topic: General Gigapanning / Zoom Options Thanks for your response Dave, that makes a lot sense. I will definitely go out and do some experiments with your suggestions and see what I can achieve. Right now the longest lens I have is a 135mm but hopefully I can manage to get something longer before I go on my trip. We will be documenting petroglyphs in Mongolia and want to be able to see both the rock art up close and the landscape in which it is embedded in the same photo. Thanks for the tip about the T3i settings as well, I was able to quickly locate it in the menu settings. I read the link about DOP, but I’m an amateur photographer so I’ll have to read up more before I fully understand it I think (I’m working on an expedition as an intern so I’ve been thrown into all of this headlong!). Basically, you have two areas of the photo which will be in focus based on your lens zoom, focal settings, and aperture – your subject area and your hyperfocal area – is that right? Thanks again! |

Topic: General Gigapanning / Zoom Options Your choice of lens will be the best indicator of how good your results will be. I use a Canon 75 to 300mm zoom at its maximum zoom with a T2i. Same sensor that you have and have very good results, limited mostly by air quality and thermal shimmer at distance. Check out my 360 made using that combination: http://gigapan.com/gigapans/69389. This pano was taken with a modified GigaPan Epic and the setup above. 1859 17.9 Mpx photos were captured on a single set of AA batteries, Canon T2i battery and a 16GB SDHC flash card over a period of 1 hour and 40 minutes. This resulted in my largest GigaPan to date, 12.59 giga-pixels. The Epic Pro battery should also last for this same shot. There is a snapshot of a USAir plane departing Sky Harbor Airport at roughly 10 miles distance. You can see the thermal effects there. Wild Horse Pass Hotel is 2.75 miles away in another snapshot. Haze restricts the ability to see details in that shot. Bottom line. Use your longest lens, stopped down to f/8 or f/11, manual focus. Nearby objects can be a challenge to deal with in picking the right focus. I chose to focus on the rooftops in the above pan and that resulted in nearby shrubs on the hilltop being out of focus but that was OK. Learn about hyper-focal distance for your lens and using that to choose the optimum focus and aperture. http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html Also, you should disable the Auto Lighting Optimizer function of the T3i (p 109 of the manual). This is enabled by default and you will have an undesirable contrast compensation that is quite noticeable where bright sky transitions to the horizon objects. Dave |

Topic: General Gigapanning / Zoom Options Hi, I am using a Canon T3i on an Epic Pro and will be using the Stitch software. I’m wondering what I’m capable of achieving with respect to zooming in on a landscape. I’d like to have a really wide panorama of a landscape stitched to a panorama of the same landscape, only manually zoomed into by my camera i.e. I don’t want a purely digital zoom. Is this possible? Thanks in advance! TM |

Topic: Web Site and Forum / 'Galleries' in 'Groups' do not allow adding Gigapans I am able to create and populate my own galleries. I can add images to my own galleries by selecting that option below any of my panoramas. Group galleries do not appear to have ever been created, and so panoramas can not be entered into group galleries. Since I am administrator of a few group galleries I would like to have access to tools where I can administrate. The path is not clear to me. Do “Group Galleries” appear by name when anyone else tries to add an image to a group gallery? |
