Taken from the shoulder of Baseline Road, Sherwood Park. A super large crane is curretly at the refinery doing some very heavy lifting...at least 1000 tons. Flare stack has a flame on it about 50 feet high.

Although the Shell refinery is more than 40 km north of here in Scotford, the main storage and distribution site is on the east side of Edmonton near the Envirofuels refinery in Sherwood Park. The ubiquitous magpies stand guard on one of the tanks.

This view from Sherwood Park shows the storage facilities alongside the refineries operated by Petro Canada (Suncor), Imperial Oil, Envirofuels, Enbridge Pipelines. Shell has refineries north of Edmonton in the Fort Saskatchewan area in what is known as the Industrial Heartland.
