When New Zealand won the Americas' Cup, this is where all the yachting competitors set up their bases. Team New Zealand, Alinghi, Oracle, Team Dennis Conner etc. Now some of the bases have been pulled down and replaced by apartments. This photo was taken with the help of Joanne Sowry.

The day was beautiful and warm. Rain threatened as it does in the north of New Zealand with it's sub tropical climate. This is where alot of overseas sailors stay with their yachts while maintaining them before heading back to the northern hemisphere. This is a great place to stop for a coffee or lunch.

This is an old Maori pa site which was used up until the mid 1800's. This pa site is across the road from an old battle ground where the Maori fought wars against other Maori tribes until the early 1800's. Rangitoto Island is a circular island in the Hauraki Gulf in Auckland which is New Zealand's largest city. When you click on the image you will see the Sky Tower which is the tallest tower in the southern hemisphere.
