This is third incarnation of the University of Leuven's library building. The first version was built in 1725 and burned down by Germans in 1914. The second version, finished in 1928, was destroyed during the German invasion of 1940.

This is the Oude Markt (old market) in Leuven; it is the center of student social life in the city. Dozens of cafes line the square, and chairs filled with students drinking beer often fill the entire square.

The Bondgenotenlaan is the longest shopping street in Leuven, stretching almost a mile from the city hall in the center to the station at the edge of the city. Belgium has few shopping malls, consequently, entire city streets are devoted to retail stores.
