The Pt Vic...

One of the classic morning shots in Death Valley National Park - surprisingly, I had the viewpoint all to myself when I arrived. These are mostly Tertiary sediments that have been significantly tilted in their relatively short geological lifetime - an indication of how active the tectonics of this region are.

360_deg panorama of Beacon Valley - one of the Dry Valleys in South Victoria Land, Antarctica. Pentax K10D, 117 handheld shots. Pictures were taken in a hurry due to short stop to pick up GPS receiver. The weather was very bad for helicopter landing - we had very strong ghosting wind.

Photo taken from the top of Mt Beacon overlooking the Hudson River, about 60 miles north of New York City. To the left, looking south, is Dennings Point jutting into the Hudson, and the Newburgh-Beacon bridge near the center. The town of Beacon is on the near-side of the bridge and Newburgh on the opposite shore. ...

An Airway beacon was a rotating light on a tower used for visual navigation by airplane pilots along a specified airway corridor. Approximately 1,500 Airway beacons were constructed, covering 18,000 miles (29,000 km) in the U.S. to guide pilots from city to city. Construction by the Post Office and the U.S. Department ...

Beacon Rock, the exposed core of an ancient volcano, dominates the middle section of the Gorge. It stands 848 feet tall above the mighty Columbia, and in these parts is considered to be the second largest monolith in the world, next to Gibraltar.
