Located near Elk Island Park east of Edmonton. The village shows the style and culture of life in early Alberta by the many Ukrainian immigrants who arrived and settled nearby during the early part of the 20th Century. The building styles are reflections of those in many parts of western Ukraine. Many of the buildin...

This was shot on the South bank of the Bow River, just West of Calgary's downtown. The pictured Poplar (or Cottonwood) tree has produced millions of tiny seeds - each covered with cotton-like fibres - that have collected in clumps on the branches and at the tree's base. Looks a bit like snow in July.

These imposing cliffs rise to more than 10,000 feet near Saskatchewan Crossing in Banff National Park. The view is from Rampart Creek on the Icefield Parkway. The pinnacles near the top are eerie and mysterious, sometimes resembling cathedral towers. Dozens of small cascades tumble down from the upper cliffs as th...

This is just part of the 250,000 light display facing on the 144 Ave. side This was a very difficult display to photograph adequately. Cold temps mean batteries discharge quickly, lighting contrast makes it difficult to photograph with a full range of colour, balance and tone, sightseers moving in front of your cam...

Despite the recent bout of extremely cold weather down to -40C, parts of the river still have patches of open water. This view from St. Georges Crescent is looking south towards the University and Hawrelak Park.

The Crowsnest Pass is an important transportation corridor through the Rocky Mountains. Raw materials like grain and lumber travel West by highway or rail to Vancouver and manufactured goods are carried East to the prairies and central Canada.

One of the most impressive stone churches in Canada. Stitching note: I accidentally had the white balance set to automatic so patches of the sky area looks off-color.

One of my larger Gigapans, the photos were taken early in the morning after a heavy snowfall a few days earlier on the upper slopes. The mountain rises more than 1600 meters above the valley floor and is more than 10,741 feet high. Composed of many layers of shale, quartzite and limestone, it stands in solitary splend...

Looking north towards the downtown area. Prominent features include the High Level Bridge, Legislature, Rossdale Bridge, Rossdale power plant, Telus Field baseball park. The North Saskatchewan River flows through the city eastward. I've also identified some of the buildings with snapshots. There's also a plane in...
