It seems a shame to go to Paris for the first time and not to get to go up the Eiffel tower, but we weren't able to get advance tickets despite trying hard. On the other hand, given that it was 0° C at ground level, I imagine the people who did go up came back down with frostbite. So in fact we had a lucky escape!
