This small island is near the Split Rock Lighthouse inside of the state park by the same name. It is a nature perserve. There is plenty of hiking trails in the park and camping sites.

The Silver Cliff highway tunnel on the North Shore of Lake Superior, was opened for traffic in the summer of 1994. Highway 61 had steep, unstable cliffs and contained tight curves requiring this tunnel to be built. Further North a couple of miles is the Lafayette Bluff Tunnel similar to this one.
