Another afternoon at the pond in the early afternoon in mid July. A large turtle crossed the pond and a three foot Alameda whipsnake while I took this shot. The dragonflies were very busy and hardly seen at 1/800th.

The summer pond is a busy place and the dynamics of this scene largely eluded my capture. What I do like are the details of reflections.

Morgan Territory Regional Preserve has this nice pond with at least one turtle, an Alameda whip snake, many birds, and some valued shade. I would have been better off using a row shoot rather than columns now that I see the wind effects. The column shoot has the advantage that you can stop it at any time and still ...

Valley oaks are some of the largest in California, growing from sixty to sometimes more that a hundred feet tall. The large acorns were gathered and eaten by the Miwok and Volvon peoples who lived in these hills. Many of these trees were apparently planted around the village sites. Dying and dead valley oaks often ...

From Morgan Territory Regional Preserve one can get a great view of Mount Diablo. There is a trail from here to Mount Diablo. This April day had lupins in full bloom and shows oaks with their leaves almost fully out. The grasses are turning golden since our last rains have probably already occurred until November arr...

This oasis is a frog haven. Hundreds of frogs blend in along the shoreline and hop into the pond in a great cascade when one walks along its shore. The water is quite low this time of year. The larger frogs eat the smaller ones and only a few will be left by seasons end. Turtles and whipsnakes eat all that they can. ...

This view of the pond and the large oak shows the oasis nature of the pond, it is a green island in golden fields. Only oaks and bay trees grow in these dry hills. Bluebirds and coyotes live up here, and red tail hawks are frequently heard and seen.

This 360 Panorama ovelooks Morgan Territory from the top of a nearly treeless hill and was taken on a very hot late summer day. The elevation is about 1800 feet above the California's Central Valley that can be seen at a few points one the horizon. Mount Diablo is the distant peak.
