Between the Colorado (River) desert and the lower dryer Mojave is this band where cholla (choy-ya) does very well. This is in Joshua Tree National Park. The cactus flowers will soon open.
The ranchers hate this mustard because cattle don't eat it. It does look good though.

The hills above San Jose and Alum Rock Park have some very nice trails. This is part of Santa Clara Valley's Opens Space

This is along the "Lost Coast" of Northern California, so called because there is no Coastal Highway here. Do you see anyone anywhere in this photo?
A bobcat walked across the panorama along the creek run while I took this.
The gravel road that connects to the lighthouse takes one a few hundred feet above the Pacific Ocean. A pod a whales were blowing all the time I was taking this but only one plume is visible is this shot.
The mountain ranges and redwoods make acces to this area difficult but wortthwhile.
