  4. Robert Point on Robert Island is in the South Shetland Islands, just a bit west of the Antarctic Peninsula. The point looks pretty rugged, and the rocks made walking a bit tricky. Lichens and grass add some color to the landscape.

  7. Weathering pits called opferkessel form atop rock exposures due to chemical and physical weathering. They may superficially resemble potholes, but are not caused by vortices of swirling water "drilling" into the rock. The water trapped in the opferkessel may host small ecosystems with surprising organisms.
