The Eastern slopes of the Sierra is blessed with aspens. This slope has many different micro climates that are responsible for the variation in colors.

This is gull central for California as they lay eggs on some of these islands.
Conway Summit is located on California Route 395 just North of Mono Lake. This grove of aspens is about a mile WNW of the summit and is only now showing color change on the second weekend in October.
The orange red tips are a transient effect that can go with a good wind or rain. These are shelterd from some of that North of Durango Colorado in the Four Courners region of the South West US.
The first light is often shining trhough fog. By mid moringing some blue might be showing through. This shot was taken in the middle of the yard between the cottages at Greenwood Pier Inn
