The site during the Battle of Bull Run (1st Manassas) in the US Civil War, July 21, 1861 where General Thomas Jackson of the Confederate army earned the nickname of 'Stonewall'. The statue of Jackson on is horse is visible in the photo.

Andersonville Prison in the US Civil War needed to bury the dead nearby. So many prisoners were interred at this location it has become a National Cemetery similar to Arlington National Cemetery.

A view of part of the confederate section of Lynchburg, Va's old city cemetery. This was a bright day, so the extreme contrasts made things a bit challenging. This is an iron clad ship that was sunk during the seige at Vicksburg in the Civil War. It was sunk about a mile away from where it currently sits. It is currently undergoing a restoration using many of its original parts.
