Downtown LA and surrounding area viewed from Griffith Observatory. Conditions were highly variable that day with intermittent rain and sunbreaks passing through. This pan is considerably smaller, features a narrower field of view and better light than the one I posted earlier. Additional info per user request: Th...

There are paths all throughout Griffith Park, where the observatory is perched. I walked down the hill a couple hundred yards to get this profile of the building against the dusk sky.

This GigaPan (# 1 of three) was taken Jan. 18, 2008 on a balmy day in LA. I wanted to get a shot of the new building going up near the Staples Center in downtown before it was completed on the outside. I found this vantage point with the palm trees, which I think gives a nice environmental setting. You can see cars...

Looking South from Mulholland Drive with Griffith Park Observatory to the left, to Downtown Los Angeles (with Hollywood in the foreground) and Marina Del Rey and Santa Catalina Island to the Right. A very good day for viewing Los Angeles.

Shot at sunset from the roof of Griffith Observatory, overlooking Los Angeles. It was a clear day, but as soon as the sun went down, the marine layer rushed in, ruining the shot I had imagined. We'll try this one again when it warms up a bit and the sunset can really light up the LA basin.

This is part of the gardens at the J Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. It was a beautiful windy day, although on the chilly side for LA.

This fantasy map was created specially for Gigapan. I noticed that my previous uploads were not really panoramas, so I decided to construct one for Gigapan using a previously made map. It was created by taking a 9,000 x 6,000 pixel version of "105 & 110 Quilt" and increasing the width by 3 times to 27...

The Griffith Observatory is beautiful, but it is particularly striking at night. Recently renovated and expanded, it is a great place for visitors of all ages, and it has amazing views of downtown and the LA basin from its roof and terraces. Read all about it: www.griffithobservatory.org/obshist.html
