  2. Along Highway 12 - it was hard not to stop here with the sun hitting the outcrop at a nice angle. I may be wrong about this, but I think these outcrops are part of the Cretaceous Straight Cliffs formation (sandstones and shales), which has occasional organic rich layers - including coal.

  3. Another view from the north rim of the Grand Canyon - this time from the patio at the Grand Canyon Lodge. The Inner Gorge is just visible behind the closer ridges - the oldest rocks in the Canyon are exposed in the gorge by the Colorado River.

  7. The view from Bright Angel Point, along the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Layered rocks in the closer mesas, with a hint at the view in the lower parts of the canyon (and the distant mountains...)
