The Mancos Shale is often a fairly barren landscape, but these hearty yellow flowers have found a way to add a carpet of color to an otherwise bleak landscape.
That "island" in the Racetrack Playa is known as the Grandstand.
I just stopped beside the road in the middle of the valley to shoot a 270 degree GigaPan - nuthin' fancy.
The headframe is for an active borate mine in the Greenwater Valley adjacent to Death Valley National Park. The mountain range in the distance is the Funeral Mountains.
