This image was taken from the Jagger Museum overlook. Inside Halema'uma'u - the pit crater inside the caldera - is a lava lake, which is also putting out "vog" - a combination of Water vapor, Sulfur dioxide, Carbon dioxide, and ash (when the plume is browner - it's got more ash) Trade winds drive the plume to the...

This is a companion to the shot I took from Mt Wellington the other day. Looking the opposite direction (up at the mountain) www.gigapan.org/gigapans/52031/ From the Rosny overlook on the east side of the Derwent, there is lots to see.

This view is towards the northern side of the Coorong. The Murray River is working its way to the sea. A great barrier of sand dunes encloses this area as a virtual lake. A great place for birds. Ducks and Oystercatchers are in this image. A few km south are a set of islands known for their pelican colonies.

Taken from just east of the traditional tourist lookout (see Grand Canyon 1 when I get that posted) - it is looking NE-ish. For a really fun time, find all the hikers! And the rest stop/restrooms. Phantom Ranch is in there too.
