Taken in Vicksburg, MS within an hour of sunset. The light changed really fast during this time and I had to do some brightening on the rightmost images, to a readily apparent uneven effect. Overall, however, I am mostly pleased with the outcome. To the far right is the Ameristar riverboat casino. Interstate 20 and...

It's not easy to find a good vantage point to GigaPan the flooding on the Mississippi River. Vicksburg offers one of the few unobstructed bluff-top viewing sites along the lower river. The day was not ideal - partly cloudy - as can bee seen in the patchiness of the exposure on the right half of the image. The batter...

The flood wall has been completed and the waters still rise. The Vicksburg City Front has become a major tourist attraction as people come from miles around to view this "once in a lifetime" event. Thankfully the levee system built up in the 1920's and 1930's should help to minimize the potential damage from this eno...

This is an iron clad ship that was sunk during the seige at Vicksburg in the Civil War. It was sunk about a mile away from where it currently sits. It is currently undergoing a restoration using many of its original parts.

Another attraction in Vicksburg MS, and a favorite cooling off spot for kids in the hot Mississippi sun. The water front murals can be seen in the background, and a less obstructed view of the murals can be seen here www.gigapan.org/gigapans/75480/

Taken from the Observation Deck of the Mississippi Welcome Center on I-20 looking west toward Louisiana. The bridge on the right is the old Hwy 80 bridge, and it is no longer in use for vehicular traffic. However the railroad tracks are still used regularly by long freight trains. The bridge on the left is the I-20 ...

This was taken from the top of Fort Hill in the Vicksburg National Military Park. The scene was rather hazy, and the winds were unusually brisk. I hope to retake this on a calmer, clearer day. The flood waters of 2011 are still about 10 feet above flood stage.

A view of the mighty Mississippi River from the bluffs at Vicksburg. The river crested 10 days ago at 57.1 feet, and it appears to have receded about 7 or 8 feet since. The markings on the bridge piers represent clearance between the river and the bridge bottom. The black bridge is the old Hwy 80 bridge, and the sil...
