Goosenecks State Park is located near the southern border of the state of Utah. The park is 'simply' an overlook into the 1000 ft. deep meanders of the San Juan River that runs from southern Colorado through Utah and finally into Lake Powell where it joins the Colorado River. At some point in time, people from Phoenix ...

Alongside Route 163 lies the balancing rock feature that gives the area its name. Behind the hat is a remarkable geological formation that looks like a zig-zag pattern on a bolt of cloth. The ridge is one of multiple folds in the top layers of sandstone that run north-south called The Comb.

David Pivin beat me to this one, and got more pixels and richer color to boot (www.gigapan.org/gigapans/49832/). All I can claim is a little wider field of view.

I'd love to have had just a little more elevation for this one.

Ideally I wanted to get atop Comb Ridge to make a 360 degree panorama, but access turned out to be an issue. Next best option was 180 degrees west from the gap where Hwy 163 passes through Comb Ridge. All things considered, I'm not too disappointed with the alternative.

The Moki Dugway is located on UT-261 in southeast Utah, south of Natural Bridges National Monument. It is a series of sharp switchbacks down a steep gravel road over less than three miles. From the top of Moki Dugway you can see Valley of the gods and you can see Mexican Hat in the distance.

Not as colorful as I hoped it would be - this is full 20x zoom at about 10 miles distance.
