Grand Canyon GigaView
27 GigaPansViews
A gigapixel virtual tour via the Colorado River of America's premier natural attraction.
Grand Canyon GigaView was crowd-source funded via Kickstarter.com in the spring of 2010. It's 27 images, most of which are full 360 degree panoramas, were captured alongside the Colorado River over the course on an 18 day private rafting trip. The photographer rowed one of the rafts through over 180 named rapids in the course of the 225 mile trip.
To date, Grand Canyon GigaView has been explored by almost half a million people on various platforms including GigaPan.com, Photosynth.net, Google Earth, Bing Maps, and 360Cities.net.

Taken in the rocks above Lower North Canyon Camp. Our party was camped at the upper camp. High winds frustrated my efforts to GigaPan. The entire setup was blown over by the wind during an earlier attempt even up in the canyon with my TrekPod walking stick/tripod. Tough as nails, the GigaPan was undamaged and took ...

This GigaPan was shot while waiting for PRO (Professional River Outfitters) to shuttle us and our gear to the put-in at Lee's Ferry. People were moving around making last minute adjustments to the pack so body parts are visible throughout, but it shows the quantity of gear necessary to run the Grand Canyon. The enorm...

Our first riverside lunch stop, Badger Creek has a wide sandy fan that is obviously accessible from the road system. We found a large, ugly fire ring filled with beer cans and other trash. Not that we let it spoil a fantastic first lunch. Grand Canyon GigaView is a new school virtual tour of the Grand Canyon crea...

Having hiked up from Lower Bass Camp (River Mile 109), where our party laid over on April 7, 2010, I shot this location to provide a view of the entrance to Shinumo Creek Rapid on the Colorado River, a delightful swimming hole on Shinumo Creek itself, and the spectacular vista from one of the Grand Canyon's largest sid...
