great shot....interesting perspective and simple.

I agree that more focal points is always better to get that extended depth of field. I assume that you used Helicon Focus for this? Is there a way to adjust how the stacking software aligned the images? I know that the shots were taken with the camera held by the GigaPan but the ghosting around many edges is odd. Did you use a cable release to avoid moving the camera? You might want to try stacking these same images with Zerene Stacker. zerenesystems.com/cms/stacker  ;
There is a 30
day trial period. I have found that it does a good
job of aligning images. I stacked some shots of my
cuckoo clock that included 9 exposures per stack.
gigapan.org/gigapans/93708 I
didn't really see any of the edge issues.
Great experiment. I will look forward to seeing
how you progress in using focus stacking. Perhaps
a macro shot next might be interesting?

Turned out pretty well-the dust is a nice touch on the horizontal surfaces. We need to add more focal points next time. I noticed some of the can is not in focus. The detail on the thread is astonishing though.
