Although the temple was impressive, I really enjoyed the areas most which were integrated with nature. At this particular spot in the forest I was surrounded by stelae; just a great place to be. I would recommend visiting even if you only have a long layover at Narita (for a small fee you can check your bags and take a train almost directly here from the airport). It was easy to spend a couple hours walking around the temple and park area.

NOTE: Google has street view of this! I was able to pinpoint pretty much the exact location because of this: 35.786168,140.32055 A search for that coordinate in Google will take you right to the spot...zoom in and then select street view...you will see the path to this area heading to the north east.
