This panorama displays a close-up shot of one of my collection samples from the Huntington Museum of Art. As a part of my Master's thesis project at Marshall University, we are looking for ways to use the Gigapan process to enhance data storage techniques for future generations. In this project, Gigapan was used first to develop an on-site assessment technique for my soil arthropod collections, examining the physical and biological make-up of a region. Secondly, we intend to use Gigapan to develop somewhat of a digital key for sorting arthropods, and for storing them electronically for future referencing. This occurence provides us with the ability to integrate the past principles of biological field surveys with rapid advancements in technology. Combining science and technology, and promoting the future of environmental sustainability.
