This is a common tourist destination when visiting Ecuador. This monument is on the equator and it is common to have a picture taken with one foot in the Northern Hemisphere and the other in the Southern Hemisphere. The official location of this monument is 00 00' 00" by 78 27' 08" W at 2438 meters (7999 ft) elevation. My handheld GPS showed the coordinates to be 00 00' 07.9" S by 78 27' 20.6" W with an elevation of 2418 meters (7933 ft).
