The British began construction of this fort in 1759 when they chased the French from the adjacent Fort St. Frédéric (at the base of the bridge). It was one of the largest British forts in America and controlled traffic on the water route between Montreal and Albany, NY. The British occupied the site until 1784 except for the 18 months after American troops led by Seth Warner took control in 1775.
This is sort of a stereographic projection made in Microsoft ICE which was used to stitch the 28 photos. A more normal looking spherical projection can be explored at Photosynth here: photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=783479fa-8e7d-4027-8e23-48a8fdcd4d9c
More information and panoramas from this flight are here: fastie.net/?p=1201
The photos were taken on November 2, 2011 by a Canon Powershot S95 lofted by a 9 foot Levitation Delta kite. This panorama was uploaded on the day the new Crown Point Bridge (in distance) was opened.
