Burning of the slash piles as by-product of current forestry practices is produces poor air quality in the Okanagan this week. Proposals have been made to use this "waste" material to produce consumer energy, among other things, but for now it is just dealing with a problem the fastest way possible - by converting it to smog for others to worry about.
