Thin Section Photograph, with plane polarized light, of Norite taken with the automated imaging system at Williams College. Field of view is approximately 20 by 30 mm.
Leica microscope, Nikon camera, and custom designed and built stage adaptor with stepper motors.Mineralogy consists of two pyroxenes (ortho-pyroxene and clino-pyroxene) and plagioclase feldspar (labradorite). Orthopyroxene on the compositional border between bronzite and hypersthene. Exsolution lamellae of Cpx in the Opx, and simplectic textures between the two The preponderance of Opx over Cpx in the section makes this gabbro a norite.
