Description

Photo was taken EXACTLY 100 years after the April 18, 1906 earthquake from the same location that George Lawrence managed to capture the city by flying his 49 pound camera with a train of kites. The modern image was created with a full size replica of Lawrence's swing lens camera and shot from a helicopter. The negative size in the camera is 24 inches by 55 inches, but like Lawrence the final print was cropped to 19 inches by 49 inches. Camera position is about 37.79882N 122.38907W (hopefully both correct within 0.0001 deg). So the pic spans 144 horizontal degrees: left edge azimuth about 166.6 deg, right edge 310.6 deg.

I cannot believe that I did not find this image earlier. I have always loved the original George Lawrence photo. It is great to see a modern version of this panorama for comparison. It answers many questions that I have. It is so great that you constructed a similar camera and used the older 19 inch Dagor lens.
