Description

This is a very high resolution rendering of an extremely expensive region of the Mandelbrot set. I had written my own Mandelbrot renderer (like all true nerds do at one point or another) and I was looking for a really challenging region to render so I dived in using XaoS, looking for a really expensive area. I then rendered a version of this image and posted it and its image coordinates on a part of my web site devoted to fractals: http://superliminal.com/fractals/index.html daring others to render it well. One who did was Walter Brameld IV who renders fractals and posts them on his Mandlebrot Picture of the Day web site: http://www.mandelpod.com/archive/2009/04/21/

He has a Linux server farm available and he offered to render this extremely high resolution version for me. I had it printed on canvas as a birthday gift for my mother. It still frightens her a bit because she doesn't know what world it comes from but she and her friends are impressed.
