Thurmond, West Virginia is now virtually a ghost town located in Fayette County, WV on the banks of the New River.
In the 1920s, Thurmond was a bustling boom town but is now owned by the National Park Service and operated as a tourist attraction. The renovated depot has been converted into a visitor center.
The Dun Glen Hotel in Thurmond is listed by Ripley’s for hosting the world’s longest lasting poker game at 14 years. The Dun Glen was destroyed by a fire in 1930.
In the 1920s, Thurmond’s population was about 500 although today it has a population of nearly zero.
***On a technical note, I discovered that I was getting an error message on the GigaPan Epic "Button Pusher Disconnected". I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the cable to the shutter release, powering off and on, resetting the unit and anything I could think of. When I removed the battery pack, I replaced it with freshly charged batteries and that did the trick! I have since found that low batteries may result in the error message, "Button Pusher Disconnected". The fix is easy, replace the spent batteries with freshly charged ones.
