- Description

This image shows the remains of the Casa Real at Kiuic. It is an important landmark since John Lloys Stephens and Frederick Catherwood (Explorer and Artist credited for re-discovering the ancient Maya culture) stayed at this house in 1840 while they explored the site. The hammock hooks where Stephes and Catherwood hung their hammocks are still on the wall, quite impressive after more than 150 years.
