vol 3 issue 4Every weekday morning at about 7:00am, all of the doctors, nurses, and staff meet in the Hospital's library for a meeting. Prominently hung in the library are portraits of hospital founders Gwen and Larry Mellon. The staff discusses current cases and treatment plans. Each day, a formal presentation is made by one of the hospital’s permanent Haitian physicians or a visiting specialist. On the particular day that this image was shot, the discussion centered on gastrointestinal medicine and led by Dr. Bright. The meetings are usually held in Krèyol, French, and a little English. Usually the discussion will begin with a famous quote or Haitian proverb. This day started with a quote from Nelson Mandela: "it is our light, not our darkness, that most frighten us."
