A few minutes' drive from where I live is a coastal mangrove swamp, which is a rich habitat for migratory birds, crustaceans, molluscs and fish, among others. This morning at neap tide, I was pleasantly surprised to find the mangrove deserted, despite it being the school vacation. It was only after starting to shoot the Gigapan from the boardwalk that I noticed the mudskippers roosting in the mud. Well camouflaged, they revealed themselves by fidgetting once in a while, much like sun tanners making themselves comfortable in the morning sun.
There are at least two species of mudskippers here (Giant mudskipper Periophthalmodon schlosseri and Slender mudskipper Periophthalmus gracilis) and molluscs among the mangrove trees.
All of these are well camouflaged in the swamp mud - so Happy Sleuthing!
