On the afternoon of 01 Jun 2011 a tornado touched down in western Massachusetts. Its track can be seen for nearly 40 miles / 65 km from Westfield MA to Southbridge MA. (This is very unusual for this part of the continent.) It came through nearly the centre of Monson MA a rural town in Hamden County east of Springfield MA.
This panorama was taken from Ely Rd just west of the main street and in the centre of the path of the tornado. If you look at this location on Google Earth you'll see that it was heavily forested - and Google Street View shows the location which has been completely cleared by the tornado.
