Just got home from the big photo store in New York City, B&H, where I
happened to see this thing called a "Cotton Carrier Pro-Pac" that is meant
for carrying your cameras around on your body so that you can get to them
very quickly-- a sort of "quick draw" carrying mechanism. But when I saw
it I thought immediately that I could use it to strap the little Gigapan to
big tree limbs. The clerk at the store was really dubious about this. An
"off label" use I suppose.Attached the "Cotton Carrier Pro-Pac" to a Sonotube which I just happened
to have lying around and mounted the Gigapan on it and then shot this small
badly composed Gigapan of a painting on the wall (just to see how it would
work). Had to stuff a towel in between the straps and the Sonotube to get the
straps tight enough. Also had to wad up some thick poster tape to jam up the
quick-release mount on the "Cotton Carrier Pro-Pac" so that it wouldn't rotate.I think this is going to work so can't wait to try it out in the field.
