Otter Creek is a low-gradient river between Rutland and Middlebury, and overflows its banks during most springs. Although this is a typical flood for these fields, 15 miles downstream at Lake Champlain a record flood level was reached yesterday.
This was a tough day for my first attempt at kite aerial photography. There were 30 mph gusts -- not good beginner's conditions. I remembered to select manual focus but forgot to focus on infinity, so only the kite line is in focus. One of the carbon fiber legs blew off the rig and was lost. But it was too glorious a morning not to try the new autoKAP rig:
Sutton Flow Form 16, fuzzy tail, 200# braided Dacron line
Brooxes Deluxe KAP kit, AuRiCo set for 19 pan and 4 tilt positions, gentWIRE-USB2
Canon Powershot A630 with CHDK, Tv at 1/800 sec, ISO 80, 35mm (eq.)
26 8MP photos stitched in Photomerge plus three action photosThanks to Preston and Christine for line wrangling and to Christine for the excellent action shots.
