Description

An Egyptian obelisk 50 ft. (15 m) high dominates this impressive plaza. It was found in the Roman amphitheater and erected here in 1676. Behind it is the Hôtel de Ville (Town Hall), built 1673-75. Its bell tower dates from 1553 and came from the building which previously stood on the site.

The pano shows evidence of a traditional Camargais wedding which was performed before I arrived. The bridal party arrives on horseback, wearing traditional clothes. Though I missed the civil ceremony at the Hôtel de Ville, I saw them arrive at the cathedral later.
