Obviously this is a Gigapan of our refrigerator. You might be thinking why someone would want to post a Gigapan of their refrigerator? Strange right? As with any image there is always a story to tell…
Two days ago I purchased over 40 lbs. of powdered sugar and with the help of some co-workers we began mixing the sugar with water to make candy to feed honey bees during transit for the National Honey Bee Survey.
The sugar and water are mixed and then kneaded until it reaches the right consistency. Once the sugar and water reach the point where it can be freely manipulated it is molded into Petri-dishes.
The Petri-dishes are covered and stored in our refrigerator until it is time to glue them into the bee boxes.
The bee boxes are used to ship live bees from the field to the USDA’s Bee Research Lab in Beltsville, MD so that they can be analyzed for viruses.
There are over 400 Petri-dishes containing bee candy in our refrigerator. The live bee boxes just arrived from Mann Lake and need to be constructed. As of now the boxes are scattered all over our living room.
I will be posting a Gigapan in a few minutes that will show what it looks like to construct 500 live bee boxes in our living room.
