New River Gorge Bridge by Mona Evans

The New River Gorge Bridge is located in in Oak Hill, West Virginia.
It's an incredible 3030 feet long, and the arch is 876 above the river. The entire structure weighs an unimaginable 88 million pounds. The concept is so modern that it's amazing to think that the project was dreamed up in the fifties. And its completion turned a 45 minute car trip into a 45 second zip across from one side to the other. The bridge took 3 years to complete and was finished in 1977.

Bridge Day is West Virginia's largest one day festival. The reason? It's also the world's largest extreme sports festival. Watching people rappel and BASE jump off of one of the largest bridges in the world is a very big experience. And with the lure of whitewater rafting continually calling, there's never a shortage of things happening around the New River Gorge.
