The Custozza Parc, Alba Iulia, Romania (the reaction, 1), March 11th, 2011 by Calin Suteu

The trees in this parc, some as old as 130 years, found in the middle of the Vauban fortress of Alba Iulia will be razed to the ground in the following days as part of a city approved project with EU funding (!). They will be replaced by a completely paved square with parking spots, a fountain and the current monuments. This is the first proper reaction to the events, a rally has gathered several hundreds of people in the square in support for the trees. The struggle to halt the works is still going on, a public debate being prepared for next week... Taken by hand, I was too excited and it shows...
